Women who have already been diagnosed do not experience any impact on their fertility if they follow the diet correctly. However, those who do not strictly adhere to the gluten-free 100 % diet, or who have not yet been diagnosed with coeliac disease and therefore consume gluten, may well find that their fertility is affected.
The diet for pregnant women who are coeliac is exactly the same as for anyone else suffering from coeliac disease, meaning they must exclude all foods containing gluten. Additionally, they need to take special care regarding cross-contamination. In fact, if a pregnant coeliac woman were to ingest gluten, it could affect the absorption of essential vitamins and minerals for the development of the foetus.
Coeliac disease is linked to a genetic predisposition. However, a newborn will not have a diagnosis until their reaction to consuming gluten has been determined, so it will not be possible until cereals are introduced into their diet.
