The summer holidays are here!

Travelling without gluten is easy

Have you already chosen the destination you are going to enjoy?

Many of us have already done it and have our suitcases packed and ready to enjoy our summer holidays. The good weather is already here and we're keen to make the most of it. The process of choosing the perfect holiday is always something we love, and a good holiday is Planning It is key to ensuring that we make the most of the trip to 100%.

When we decide to go on holiday, we want to enjoy those days, escape the routine, find peace and disconnect. For many of us, that's the case, but for people with coeliac disease, there are more factors to consider. Among them is food safety. For them, this is very important, if not the most important.

People who are coeliac also want to enjoy themselves and have a good time. But to do so, we must take into account the risk of gluten contamination during our holidays.

Choosing a suitable destination given our situation isn't that easy on this occasion, especially when we're travelling with non-coeliacs who have to adapt to our gluten-free diet.

That’s why we’ll often find ourselves in situations where, for example, the group wants to stay at a hotel, but that hotel doesn’t serve gluten-free food, or the options are very limited. So we won’t be able to enjoy the food to the full either.

So what happens then?

We can't change the fact of being coeliac, but we can change how we approach the problem. Because there's a solution for everything if we look for it. Being coeliac won't stop us from enjoying a trip; if we can't go to a hotel, we can rent an apartment.

And why a flat?

Apartments offer us security, but also autonomy and freedom. We won't have to worry about the fixed meal times at the hotel. We'll be able to eat when we fancy and enjoy our destination without having to rush back for meals or find them closed. Here we have an advantage.

And why security?

The reassurance of knowing that we do the shopping ourselves, and so we know where the food we’re eating comes from. We’ll be able to eat generic, gluten-free 100% foods that we can cook ourselves to our own taste, just like at home.

Economy and Saving

It might seem silly, but travelling as a coeliac also has its pros. Among them is what we'll save by eating at home. This will allow us, among other things, to invest that money in the leisure activities of our trip, to discover somewhere new Restaurant gluten-free, or simply spend a few extra days in our chosen destination.

So, what conclusions can we draw from all this?

Firstly, being coeliacs doesn't mean we'll miss out on the holidays we deserve and desire so much. However, we do need to invest some time in organising our trip in advance and doing some research to ensure everything goes as we wish.

Secondly, we’ll have to choose alternatives that suit our situation, because there are plenty of them. As we’ve mentioned, a flat is always a safe option for enjoying the destination to the full and keeping our environment clean.

So, we'll be able to enjoy food that we manage ourselves, and therefore we'll have savings that will allow us to do many other things. Because being coeliac also has its advantages
