The Coeliac disease requires not only focusing on the physical aspects of the person suffering from it, but also on the emotional ones. Coeliac disease, an autoimmune condition that affects the body's ability to tolerate Gluten, can have a significant impact on the Emotional well-being from those who suffer from it. In this blog, we will explore the connection between coeliac disease, a gluten-free diet, and emotional health.
How can coeliac disease affect people who suffer from it in this regard?

Firstly, after receiving a coeliac disease diagnosis, adapting to a gluten-free diet can become a significant emotional challenge. The affected person may experience a Anxiety initially due to uncertainty about what foods are safe to consume and feeling some frustration at having to avoid dishes that were previously enjoyed without concern.
Secondly, adhering to a gluten-free diet can lead to feelings of Frustration, social exclusion, or sadness, particularly in social situations, family events, or with friends. These scenarios typically present greater challenges for individuals with coeliac disease, as the meals provided are not usually adapted to their dietary needs. The same applies when eating out at restaurants or during travel (I'll include links to these topics on El Miracle's blog here).
Thirdly, numerous studies point to a possible link between coeliac disease and Depression, possibly due to the nutrient absorption problems that coeliac people have. These would affect the generation of serotonin, which is the main neurotransmitter linked to mood and emotional control.
It should be noted that not all people with coeliac disease experience or cope with the condition in the same way, as some manage to adapt well to the diagnosis and the gluten-free diet. However, others may require additional help, such as nutritional advice or support groups to manage these challenges.
How do you manage Coeliac Disease? What advice or guidelines do you follow to achieve complete emotional well-being? We look forward to reading your comments.
